Separating and feeding system for steel rings and discs

Further development of a separating and feeding system for straight and corrugated steel rings and steel discs

In the field of automated separation and feeding of straight and corrugated steel rings and steel discs, we have re-engineered and manufactured a new and further developed system and put it into operation in our company in January 2024.

The task of the system is to spread the ferromagnetic steel rings and steel discs previously stacked on a rotary magazine in an expanding magnet station, separate them and feed them in the correct position to a polishing machine. Up to 140 steel discs per minute are sensor-controlled in the throughfeed direction (double sheet control) and the rejects are discharged via a chute. The separated and inspected steel rings/steel slats are offset and fed onto an oscillating belt conveyor. This transports the steel rings/lamellas through a downstream polishing machine.

The system can process different steel rings and steel discs with the following dimensions:

- Ring width 5 - 25 mm

- Thickness of the rings 0.8 - 3.0 mm

- Shaft height of the rings up to 3.0 mm

The changeover time for a product change is less than two minutes.

In order to operate the system reliably and to support the operator and maintenance personnel in their daily work, it is equipped with a fully automatic central lubrication system, a traffic light/signal column that indicates the current operating status (automatic, manual, set-up mode) and coloured system lighting that indicates a corresponding fault via the light colour in the event of an error.

It is also equipped with a remote maintenance modem to provide rapid external support in the event of faults. This allows an NSM technician to connect directly to the machine control system after prior customer approval and read out error and fault messages as well as carry out programme adjustments promptly.

The system fulfils all requirements for CE conformity in accordance with the current Machinery Directive and is equipped with a light grid system and deflection mirrors in the feed areas as well as safety limit switches on the doors. This prevents accidental or unauthorised access with the risk of injury within the system. Sound-absorbing elements reduce noise exposure to below 80 dB A to allow operating and maintenance personnel to work comfortably without wearing hearing protection.
