The blue unit tanks and the importance of anti-corrosive ebonite coverings

The OMG filter pumps - TE series distinguish themselves for their solid blue steel filtering tank, having an internal coating made of protective elastomer (ebonite).

The OMG blue tanks are a distinctive feature that several times aroused the curiosity in visitors during the international trade fairs we participated, since the galvanic operators were used to see PP cylindrical filtering units.

On the other hand, if PP is appreciated for its good chemical stresses resistance, its mechanical performances are limited: after a few months at working temperatures around 60 - 70 ° C, PP is easily deformed.

In the filter pump specific case, these deformations prevent the gaskets from sealing, with consequent liquid leaks phenomena from the filter pump and worsening of the expected filtration standards.

Already in the 1950s, these technical evidences led to designed a strong steel tank, externally reinforced, suitably inside protected by an anti-corrosive and anti-abrasive coating based on ebonite. This is a thick coating wiht a minimum of 3 mm and that could reach considerable thicknesses, depending on the technical needs

The coating choice is closely related to the operational needs of the industrial application for which it is intended.

A close collaboration between the designer, the manufacturer and the company that performs the coating (PESSINA ANGELO SRL.) is therefore required.
