Shipbuilding: Why Reproducible Welding Processes Make the Difference Across Hundreds of Tube Connections

Modern vessels rely on extensive tube systems for cooling water, fuel, hydraulics, compressed air and numerous other media. During newbuild and retrofit projects, hundreds of similar tube connections often need to be produced with consistent quality.

Each weld joint must be reliable, leak-tight and fully traceable. At the same time, shipyards operate under significant time and cost pressure. Rework or delays can have a direct impact on project schedules. Orbital welding offers decisive advantages in meeting these challenges.

Once a welding procedure has been qualified and the welding program has been created, identical tube connections can be welded repeatedly with consistent quality. This reduces error rates, minimizes rework and provides a reliable basis for efficient production.

In addition to reproducibility, mobility and flexibility play a major role in shipbuilding. Welding activities frequently take place at changing locations – in workshops, shipyards or directly on board.

With the compact EVO series, Orbitec offers orbital welding systems specifically designed for these requirements. The systems are compact, lightweight and easy to handle while providing advanced functions for process monitoring, program management and weld documentation. Combined with gas-cooled and water-cooled weld heads, the EVO series is ideally suited for flexible use in newbuild, retrofit and maintenance projects.

In addition, Orbitec provides all essential components from a single source – from tube preparation and orbital welding through to documentation and worldwide service support.

Are you planning a new vessel, a retrofit project or looking to optimize existing manufacturing processes?

Our application specialists will be pleased to support you directly on site and help you select the right orbital welding solution for your specific requirements.
