Spreader Beams for cranes – The project

Spreader beams for cranes | Success case (video included)

We believe that it is worth commenting the project that we have delivered recently, and that it is a work of good management within the world of heavy loads and we can qualify as a success case for Ox Worldwide.

Spreader Beams for cranes – The project

We’re very proud of the engineering project developed by Ox Worldwide for “Aguilar Cranes” concerning the manufacture and supply of Spreader Beams for cranes.

Last October 2019 we received an inquiry consisted of providing the engineering design and supply for the installation project of a bridge formed by prefabricated sections on the M30 in Madrid. With a weight of up to 300 tons per section, the challenge was to manufacture and supply the Modular Spreader Beams for cranes for lifting and all his accessories in just one month.

Accessories for Spreader beams

Another key requirement was that the lower slings should be introduced in holes of 300 mm in diameter and be flexible and strong enough to embrace the bridge section by the base, without damage to themselves or to concrete, but these are materials of great tonnage not too common and all this made the project more expensive.

The solution chosen was to use special slings made of Dyneema, an ultra-resistant and very light material, with an approximate weight of only 100 kg per sling and a diameter of 110 mm to lift each bridge section by means of two units in basket, in "U" shape, with a resulting capacity of 200 tons per sling.

Spreader Beams for cranes manufacturing

It was decided to perform the Spreader Beams for cranes with a cascade formation (as in the graphics). The rigging plan was developed by an assembly of Modular Spreader Beam for cranes, with 3 separating Modular Spreader Beam: on the top, one unit of 400 tons of capacity, model OX-SB-250/400 and on the bottom, two lower Modular Spreader Beam of 170 tons of capacity each, model OX-SB-170. The Spreader beams for lifting are one of our best selling and best valued products, which they ask us from all parts of the world and that they are also certified by DNV. We currently have the models with the most total capacity and more length in the European market! From 9 to 1350 tons of capacity. (certificate by DNV). We are accredited by the DNV Certificate and the FEM-AEM. We also have ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 3834-2. This is our commitment to the highest quality standards And security, one of our core values.

Project summary

Additionally, it was complemented with all the remaining lifting accessories : Grommet wire rope (a versatile and economical solution for this range of capacities) and wide body lyre shackles to not damage the slings and therefore not decrease their capacity due to the capacity reduction factors that would apply in case of using conventional shackles.

The management to get all the accessories we also have to thank for the good work of the purchasing department, because not all suppliers are able to deliver this type of large tonnage accessories in such a short time.

The complete list of accessories includes:

2 x Grommet sling 6 m x 251 t WLL

2 x Wide body shackles x 300 t WLL

1 x Spreader beam OX-SB-250/400 x 5 m span

2 x Wide body shackles x 200 t WLL

4 x Grommet sling 4 m x 134 t WLL

4 x Wide body shackles x 125 t WLL

2 x Spreader beam OX-SB-170 x 4 m span

4 x Wide body shackles x 125 t WLL

2 x Dyneema slings x 12 m x 100 t WLL/each

PROJECT DELIVERED:

In a project that demanded readiness, safety and efficiency we carry out all the lifting engineering, their accesories. the acceptance plans, the collection and reception of the materials as well as the manufacture of the Modular Spreader Beam and the delivery at the client's home, and most importantly, without neglecting the rest of the orders we had in manufacturing for some time.

And of course, it was possible to assemble all the parts of the bridge, full fit the scheduled plan without any incidence, so we can only congratulate ourselves because the operation has been a resounding success, congratulate our entire team , as well as Luis Aguilar, manager of “Grúas Aguilar”, also thank him for the video he has sent us, which was recorded with drones in the middle of the M30 and in it you can see all the details of the project .

Thank you all.

What are spreader beams ?

Spreader beams are elements that are used for lifting loads, normally they are coupled to the end of a crane to be able to lift and move loads of great lengths. The item consists of several modular sections that allow one or more sections to be assembled on the ground, depending on the weight and length of the load.

Thus, with two clamping points, which if raised with a single clamping point would be destabilized, it is an indispensable piece for lifting loads of all types and used in any industrial sector.

At Ox Worldwide, we work with the gas&oil, logistics, heavy goods, chemical, rail, windenergy, maritime, aeronautical, mining, automotive, construction, nuclear, etc. industries.

Currently in Ox Worldwide we have the most capacity and longest models in the European market! From 9 to 1350 tons of capacity. (DNV certified)

What is a Corner Beam or Spreader Frame?

It is also possible to assemble several Spreder beams in rectangular form, they have corners or corners which makes it acquire a rectangular shape and have the ability to lift much more bulky loads.

They are modular, easy to assemble and disassemble and can be adapted to various configurations and sizes. And they are used to lift multiple types of loads.

The conical adapters are placed between the end terminals of a given load and the intermediate section of higher models. In this way, the separating rocker can be used with more length without having to increase the model of the terminals and shackles.

Benefits:

-Reduction of the end and descending terminals in size and cost.

-Reduction of the upper and lower shackles in size and cost.
