Complete suction and treatment installation for industrial bad smells (VOCs)

In this field of expertise, we combine both an experienced team able to create new solutions for new challenges in terms of toxic, corrosive or unpleasant emissions (VOCs: volatile organic compounds), with the design and manufacturing of the components these installations require: thermoplastic process and storage tanks, fans, pumps and filters for corrosive/toxic fluids ; this gives us an invaluable flexibility when facing new problems.

We have designed, installed and started up many gas and dust installations in all industrial fields. Here below is a short presentation of a VOC suction and treatment installation Plastoquimica recently achieved in Tarifa, in the Southernmost point of continental Spain.

The fish meal factory is Harinas de Andalucía. It started 30 years ago as local manufacturers of canned fish in the Cádiz bay sought for a profitable solution for their fish by-products'' collection and processing.

Recently, this facility closed due to the odors generated by its activity. The owners decided then to invest and build a new plant, adopting the latest technology in odor emissions control and treatment.

This new facility, located in Tarifa, was put into work during last January; it will be able to extend the activity of the company, currently focused on the production of fish meal and oil, towards protein production for human and animal consumption. Its location is reasonably far from residential areas; most important, it incorporates a complete VOC treatment installation designed specifically for the complete suction and purification of the generated bad smells.

PLASTOQUIMICA was the company assigned for the design, manufacture, installation and start-up of this “odor installation”. In order to minimize the impact of the bad smells generated during the fish meal production, PLASTOQUIMICA proposed an odor treatment system that prevents any untreated emissions to occur outside the industrial site.

The VOC treatment installation designed by PLASTOQUÍMICA does not use chemical agents for its operation or generate any waste or residues during the odor removal process: after its suction, steering and pre-scrub, the “bad” air stream flows through a layer of wooden material, in which spontaneously generated bacteria “digest” the VOCs causing the bad smell. Consumption and operating costs are marginal
