Walter’s P6005-WKK45C point drill insert brings new levels of performance and cost effectiveness to the drilling of cast materials as well as other materials, the company says. The P6005-WKK45C insert features a geometry for maximum productivity in cast iron materials, and 110-degree prismatic seat for minimal runout and stable positioning. Its chamfered corners are designed to enhance stability in abrasive conditions, plus improve resistance to wear.

The point drill insert features a high-performance coating developed for increasing wear resistance with cast materials. This thicker coating also has enhanced toughness because of its multi-layer structure. It is designed to provide alternate layers of hard wear, heat and abrasive resistance. The tough material also improves shock resistance, the company says.

The inserts, which are color coded for easy selection and wear detection, have shown tool life increases of up to 100 percent in field tests, as well as increased process reliability, and improved machine usage because of reduced tool change. This results in a lower cost of operation.
