ALS transports 300 tonne Komatsu

Abnormal Load Services (ALS) has overseen the loading of a Komatsu PC4000 mining excavator as part of a transport operation from Europe to the USA.

The PC4000, which weighed 300 tonnes in total, was dismantled into 17 pieces and transported from Germany by road to a dock in Belgium.

While an ALS operations team based in the Netherlands arranged the loading, ALS sister company Wallenius Wilhelmsen Ocean transported the excavator by barge to the USA.

The enormous Komatsu machine was featured at the Bauma construction equipment exhibition in Germany, April 2019. The PC4000 mining excavator is the second hydraulic excavator in the company’s product range and has an operating weight range between 388 and 409 tonnes, with both shovel and backhoe capacities of 22 m3.
