Bearing Material Helps Control Electrostatic Discharge

Igus Inc. says that it has developed a bearing material that helps protect electronic systems from static discharges and associated risks.

The company developed the bearing material for applications that require electrostatic discharge (ESD) properties or where static discharges, if uncontrolled, present risks to electronic components and production processes.

According to Igus, the self-lubricating iglide F2 material exhibits low surface resistance, a characteristic that it says contributes to a continuous depletion of charges. The material’s surface resistance ranges between 103 and 109 ohms, depending on parts geometry. The company says that iglide F2 is also dust and debris resistant, and has been engineered to withstand high loads and speeds. The material is available in 14 bearing diameters, as well as in machineable bar stock.
