Why I work in wind power..

Hi, my name is Sadia Maqsood and I am a Project Manager at Siemens where I've been working for over three years now.

Siemens is a large company that does many things, but I work in the business that manufactures and installs onshore wind turbines.

Although I have worked in various industries in my career, which included telecommunication and TV broadcasting, five years ago, I starting thinking more about the impact we have on our planet. I wanted to do something about it and so I looked at jobs in renewable energy and eventually, I ended up at Siemens...

In my role, I oversee the execution of wind farm projects from start to finish. I am based south of Glasgow in Scotland but I get to travel all over the UK to meet a variety of people.

It is great to see how wind farms are benefitting communities as I travel around the UK. Every step of every project is an exciting and proud moment for me...from manufacturing the first part, to transporting and installing the first turbine.

Most importantly, working as a team and working on challenging projects through to the end is very satisfying.

As the wind industry is rapidly growing, my advice to anyone thinking about a job in renewable energy is that to do well, it is important to have the right skills! Fortunately, the industry is so diverse that so many different skills are required - from project and sales managers, to engineers and technicians.

The most rewarding aspect of my job is knowing that I play a small but significant part in providing sustainable, renewable energy to homes all over the UK.
