Gotham Greens inaugurates new greenhouse in US

US-based fresh produce company Gotham Greens has announced the opening of its new 30,000ft² greenhouse in the Rockies.

Located adjacent to Stanley Marketplace in Aurora, Colorado, the new greenhouse will be engaged in the production of fresh local produce all through the year and distribute to grocery retailers, including Whole Foods Market, Choice Markets and Alfalfa’s, across seven states in the US.

Gotham Greens co-founder and CEO Viraj Puri said: “Given the current pressures on our country’s food system, one thing is clear: the importance of strengthening our national food supply through decentralised, regional supply chains.

“Our business model has enabled us to remain nimble during these unprecedented times and continue to deliver fresh, locally grown produce to customers and our communities.

“Now more than ever, we are committed to delivering high-quality, long-lasting and nourishing produce to people when it’s needed most.”

The company noted that during the Covid-19 pandemic, its new facility will offer locally grown produce and a line of salad dressings and sauces.

The facility will also produce two new lettuce varieties such as Crispy Green Leaf and Rocky Mountain Crunch, as well as create 30 new employment opportunities in the Denver area.

Going forward, Gotham Greens will also partner with restaurant and foodservice customers in the area.

Puri added: “Although we never envisioned our Denver greenhouse opening and national salad dressing rollout happening during a global pandemic, we’re proud to be providing people across the country with healthy, fresh food options they can get excited about.

“With the rise of cooking at home, we’re seeing consumers get creative and enjoy our dressings in a variety of different ways – as a savoury dip, tangy marinate or freshly tossed with salad greens.”

Last November, Gotham Greens opened a new greenhouse in Pullman, Chicago, US.
