Small Drill for Stainless Steel Cutting

With bad thermal conductivity, high ductility and long chips, stainless steel cutting is a challenge even for machining specialists

Mikron Tool developed CrazyDrill SST-Inox, a small drill adapted especially for this material. From factors such as a carbide with flexibility and thermal shock resistance, a geometry with adapted characteristics or a high resistant coating results in better tool life, more process reliability and better productivity, the company says.

With CrazyDrill SST-Inox, it is possible to machine with 1.5-2 times higher cutting parameters, compared with standard drills and with less pecking.

A version with cooling channels through the shaft guarantees a good heat control and chip removal. The advantage is 2 to 4 times better tool life and optimized cutting parameters, the company says. Both versions are available from 0.3 to 2 mm (0.0118” to 0.0787”) with increments of 0.05 mm and a usable length of 8 x D.
