Hannover Fair 2016: An intelligent energy supply for Industries 4.0

We support companies in the manufacturing and process industries on their way to the Digital Enterprise. Integrating the energy supply into digital environments is particularly important if lasting competitive advantages are to be achieved.

We help with the intelligent integration of the energy supply into planning processes, industrial automation and complete strategies for improved energy efficiency. At Hannover Messe 2016, we’re showing in practical terms how Totally Integrated Power (TIP) – the complete, end-to-end spectrum of energy supply solutions – is leveraging its strengths in an era of increasing digitalization and automation.

As energy systems grow more and more complex, automation becomes more widespread and energy costs continue to rise, demands are also increasing in terms of a reliable, secure and efficient energy supply system for industrial plants. For companies in the manufacturing and process industries to fully exploit the opportunities offered by the digital networking of machines, products and information flows, their power networks also need to become more digital, flexible and intelligent.

With Totally Integrated Power (TIP), we have made complete, end-to-end solutions for the energy supply system in industry and infrastructure available for many years now. TIP comprises a comprehensive portfolio of products and systems for the high, medium and low-voltage ranges, paired with an extensive range of services. In the automotive industry, chemical industry, oil and gas or mining, data centers and buildings – we are an experienced, world-leading provider of individual solutions for every industry, to ensure a safe, efficient and flexible supply of electricity for machines and plant.

Threefold integration into digital environments

Underpinning all this is the possibility of a threefold integration of electrical power distribution into digital environments: firstly, it can be incorporated into automated engineering processes via the comprehensive portfolio of software and data. TIP also includes communications-capable devices and open interfaces, via which power distribution can be integrated into the industrial automation system itself. And lastly, power distribution can be incorporated using systems, components and software to record energy data as part of total energy efficiency strategies. All of this makes TIP the ideal electricity supply for companies on the way toward the Digital Enterprise, and ultimately also makes a vital contribution to increased production and cost savings.

The complete solution for the automotive industry

The current TIP projects in the automotive industry include a comprehensive solution for a new factory for KIA Motors in Mexico, where our experts designed, supplied and installed the medium and low-voltage switchgear, medium-voltage cast resin transformers and the protection and metrology systems. The TIP solution helps KIA manufacture automobiles and SUVs efficiently. The protection and metrology systems guarantee reliable plant operation, and the perfect interplay between all TIP components enables KIA Motors to get the best out of the latest, state-of-the-art technology.

There are many examples of how TIP can help achieve efficiency improvements. One more is a new service strategy that can be implemented in conjunction with Siemens Financial Services. This is based on a service contract, and has been implemented by the automobile supplier Gestamp, among others. For one of its plants, Gestamp obtained all the components for power measurement and was connected to a Siemens Control Center, from where it could call up details of its electricity consumption in real time, down to individual motor level. Gestamp needs no additional employees or a control room of its own to achieve this. Instead, a web-based tool can be used at any time to call up the electricity consumption details. We act as skilled partner in this connection to advise on efficiency potentials within the plant as a whole.

Come see us at our booth in Hall 9 at Hannover Messe 2016, and find out how companies can benefit from the fusion of the real and virtual worlds when it comes to their power supply.
