Transfer Machine Offers High-Concentricity Finishing

Buffoli Transfer will present its line of rotary transfer machines, highlighting the Trans-Bar horizontal-axis transfer machine for precision workpieces from barstock

Fed by non-rotating bars, the machine finishes complex workpieces in one clamping while machining from both directions and transversely. The non-rotating bar process ensures the machine's working tolerances are held to tight process specifications, and is said to provide concentricity of internal and external operations. In the final stations, workpieces as long as 300 mm can be put in rotation for high-concentricity finishing. According to the company, cycle times range from between 2 and 20 sec. because the machine can be configured to use 10, 12, 16 or more spindles simultaneously.

Designed for high-efficiency bar machining with fast change-over, the machine includes an integrated cutoff system and 1-mm-thick (0.040"-thick) saw blades to promote material savings. An electronic tool monitoring system improves saw blade life, enabling saw blade limit programming and visualization of relative blade wear. Carbide-tipped blades may be used in some cut-off applications. The machine offers turret index times ranging from 0.2 to 0.5 sec., and clamping fixtures such as chucks, collets and expanding mandrels optimize workholdng with quick-change functionality. The modular transfer system can be equipped with CNC profiling heads for precision turning; three-axis multi-process modules; and accessories for rolling, marking, knurling, broaching or milling.

The company will also display its Omni-Turn transfer machines for precision shafts and automotive parts such as joints and hubs.
