Check out the MINI Z, the world’s first handheld backscatter X-ray system. Developed by American Science and Engineering, Inc. the multi-use scanner can detect hidden threats or contraband, such as explosives, guns and drugs, in real-time.

The big draw of the MINI Z is its portability, it features the same technology found in airport full-body scanners, yet is far more portable and can be transported quickly from one location to another. The innovative scanner will be of particular interest to law enforcement agencies, border control and the various branches of the military.

Additionally, the MINI Z consumes far less energy when compared to current static X-Ray systems, as it only requires 10 watts compared to larger devices that use up to 3000 watts. It remains to be seen whether the MINI Z will become an indispensable tool for X-Ray inspection, but it has definitely made a good start, by creating a positive buzz around it!
