MATERIAL SCIENCE REVOLUTION: LIGHTWEIGHT, STRONG AND 3D PRINTED

Nanoscribe technology used to print material lighter than water and stronger than steel

The next generation of materials are growing stronger and lighter thanks to superior modelling technology and 3D printing systems. Take the the Nanoscribe 3D printer Photonic Professional GT: this 3D laser lithography system can tackle rapid and powerful micro – and nanofabrication tasks in three dimensions. Researchers are currently exploring the Nanoscribe system’s capabilities to of build super-strong, super-light materials by using 3D laser lithography to produce micro-truss and-shell structures, which lend support and strength without the weight typical of metal. Advances in 3D laser lithography together with the advent of supercomputers capable of modeling materials down to the atom might mean that we will soon see 3D printed materials lighter than water and stronger than steel.
