Babe the Pig Herds Sheep, Why Not Shep the Drone?

An enterprising farmer in Ireland has turned a UAV into a highly advanced ‘sheepdog’ capable of herding sheep at a distance. The drone’s first day on the job was filmed by its onboard camera and the results are quite impressive. Nicknamed Shep the Drone, the UAV performs a number of sharp twists and turns as it expertly guides the sheep around the field. Whether this will become an accepted sheepherding practice or not, who knows, but like other domains agriculture will most likely be bitten by the drone bug. More and more we are seeing drones enter our daily lives, be that as an aid to photographers in capturing that perfect pic or as an essential tool for technicians to inspect high voltage cables or large structures.
