DRIVERLESS CARS COMING TO BRITAIN

Driverless Car to Start Trial in Four British Cities by Summer

The UK Department of Transport has just announced that driverless cars will be allowed to drive on public roads as part of a trial in four British cities. The prototypes which look somewhat like golf-carts will be appearing on the streets of Milton Keynes, Greenwich, Bristol and Coventry in time for the summer. The British government wants the UK to become a leader in the driverless car industry, an industry some estimate will be worth £900 billion (USD$1.4 trillion) in ten year’s time. In order for this to happen the British must first create an environment that would attract manufacturers to locate to the UK; allowing driverless cars on public roads is a crucial part of this strategy.

California has a significant head start on the UK. It has allowed driverless cars on its roads since 2012, not to mention the California tech giant Google announcing that it will soon begin limited production of its driverless car.
