RACER SETS NEW RECORDS WITH ROCKET-POWERED BIKE

A fast-accelerating rocket bike goes from 0-60 mph in 1.1 seconds with a top speed of 207 mph, and François Gissy has been breaking records for years with it

Designed by his friend Arnold Neracher, the bike uses a rocket system built by Swiss company Exotic Thermo Engineering for propulsion and liquid hydrogen peroxide for fuel.

The H202, of which the tank is able to hold 12.5 liters at 86% concentration, generates steam at 650 degrees Fahrenheit, making the bike both hydrogen-powered and steam-powered. Gissy set his latest record on November 7 at the Circuit Paul Ricard in Le Castellet, France, with a peak speed of 333 km/h (207 mph) attained after approximately 300 meters. Having also won races against a 436-horsepower Corvette and a 650-horsepower Ferrari Scuderia, he’s now working on a new rocket-powered bike, aptly named Spine Crusher, for 2015.
