ECO-FRIENDLIER CARS AND PLANES WITH BIOPLASTICS AND INDUSTRIAL GLUES

New Materials Lead to Lighter, More Eco-Friendly Vehicles

In the latest edition of our recent quarterly e-magazine, read our special features on new eco-friendly bioplastics and industrial adhesives, and how they will help shape the future automotive and aerospace industries. Car manufacturers have already begun to replace metal components with lighter plastic parts, to save on weight and reduce CO2 emissions. “The liftgate assembly on the new BMW i3 is made from a composite produced by Magna International Inc“. The limited availibilty of fossil fuels and growing concerns over climate change mean companies are incorporating biobased and biodegradable plastics, and thus reducing their reliance on petrochemical products. “The use of industrial adhesives in car manufacturing is growing exponentially, driven by the constant demand for greater sustainabilty.” Adhesives are often the only way of joining disparate materials such as plastic, metal or glass to one another. Add to this the large reductions in weight that are possible when you replace traditional methods of joining with adhesives.
