A WORKING CYBORG ARM MADE FROM LEGO

Robotic Arm Picks Up Best Mindstorms Brickee Award at BrickFair 2014

Lego appears to be taking over the world one brick at a time, first we had 3D printer made of Lego, then the Lego movie which was a major success, and now a functioning robotic arm made of Lego Mindstorms. In reality the cyborg arm is not seriously meant for amputees, but it does serve to show the increasing possibilities of the technologies that surround us.

The arm is a labour of love for amateur roboticist Dave “Diavo” Voltaggio and is a combination of Lego, Lego Technic, and Mindstorms that is designed to fit over his right arm. The three fingers and thumb attached to the robotic arm are controlled by the four buttons located next to Voltaggio’s hand, when his arm is joined to his contraption. Voltaggio’s creation is powered by a Mindstorms EV3, blue LED’s and a phone mount, which the user operates with their left hand. Voltaggio recently picked up the Best Mindstorms Brickee award for his clever creation at BrickFair 2014.
