GOOGLE-OWNED ROBOTS DOMINATE 2014 DARPA ROBOTICS CHALLENGE TRIALS

Google is heading toward robotic

Japanese robotics company SCHAFT, one of Google’s 2013 quiet robotic acquisitions, won December’s DARPA Robotics Challenge Trials, qualifying it for the the 2014 DRP Grand Challenge.

The 216 lb, 4.8 feet tall SCHAFT robot came in first with a whopping 27 out of 32 points.

The second place robot? The Boston Dynamics’ humanoid, Atlas, programmed by IHMC Robotics. This robot is also a Google-bot.

According to DARPA, the goal of the challenge is to create the best robot to respond in disaster zones deemed too dangerous for human intervention. Google is no longer sequestered to search tems and SEO.

According to the New York Times, Google’s vision for their robot activity is not consumer oriented, but most likely veering toward industrial automation.

Time will tell where Google is headed. For now, we’re left with footage of their DARPA dominating robots. Enjoy.
