Keep power flowing with cable services and diagnostics

Siemens offers three options for cable diagnostic technologies

Understanding how well your medium- and high-voltage cable systems are functioning is crucial, since those cables form the backbone of the electric power supply system. However, space limitations, tougher network requirements, increasing renewable generation and other factors all combine to make the monitoring of cable systems more challenging than ever.

Siemens helps utilities and other transmission network operators around the world meet this challenge with a full range of services for medium- and high-voltage cable systems.

Siemens Cable Services begins with the engineering of cable dimensions, and carries through to the final test after installation. (The fact sheet below offers more details.)

This service is for cables with synthetic insulation (such as XLPE) up to 500 kV; or low-pressure, oil-filled cables up to 400 kV.

Diagnostic technology options

Siemens offers three options for cable diagnostic technologies, all of which support reliable cable condition assessments and ensure precise fault location in installed cables:

Partial discharge (PD) diagnostics

Dissipation factor (Tanδ) measurement

Frequency domain reflectometry (FDR), via Line Resonance Analysis (LIRA®) technology

The LIRA system assesses and monitors degradation of the cable insulation caused by harsh environmental conditions such as high temperatures, humidity or radiation. LIRA also detects local degradation of the insulation material caused by mechanical impact, water intrusion or local abnormal environmental conditions.

Quality, comprehensive service

Siemens leverages technologies and high-grade materials needed for all required tasks: tools for laying cable, professional assembly of fittings with cable-sealing ends and joints, and more.

Whether you are planning to retrofit, convert, or extend a cable system, Siemens can help. Also, if you intend to dismantle an existing installation, Siemens can manage the disposal or recycling of cables and cable fittings. We perform all work in accordance with national and international regulations and guidelines.

Besides utility power plants and transmission networks, Siemens Cable Services also can be applied in the oil and gas industry.

Backed by over 150 years of experience, Siemens offers an excellent overview of the entire power industry. We can offer vendor-neutral advice and support for all kinds of power systems and accessories.
