Power the world: Siemens and Linkin Park joining forces

Siemens and U.S. rock band Linkin Park team up

Approximately 1.3 billion people, about 20 percent of the world’s population, have no access to electricity. With this statistic in mind, the United Nations has named the years 2014 to 2024 the “Decade of Sustainable Energy for All.” The objective is to enable universal energy access, renewable energy, and energy efficiency with a strong focus on distributed power generation, such as wind power. The American rock band Linkin Park, one of today’s most successful bands, which has attracted attention in the past through its strong commitment to social causes, launched Power the World to support the UN initiative.

The unique »Power Booth«: really worth a visit

For us at Siemens, a company that has been closely associated with electrification and a sustainable power supply for more than 160 years, this is a cause worth supporting. The project goals are in keeping with our values and our commitment to social issues. So we decided to support Power the World in conjunction with Linkin Park’s upcoming tour of various cities in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, which will start in Zurich on November 3rd. The »Power Booth«, a specially equipped multimedia container from Siemens, Linkin Park, and Warner Music, which will be open before and after the concerts, will call attention to Power the World during the tour.

Inside the »Power Booth«, a dramatic multimedia show on ten video screens will raise awareness about energy poverty and sustainable energy and motivate the visitors to learn more and get involved. A central part of the dramaturgy inside the »Power Booth« will be the opportunity for visitors to take pictures of themselves. These selfies taken before the concert begins will be used as part of the pre-show. All container visitors who take photographs will also have the opportunity to enter into a drawing for a special »Linkin Park Edition e-Smart.«

Design and construction in record time

The design and construction of the »Power Booth« was a real tour-de-force which kept more than 30 people at Siemens, Warner Music, and various service providers, such as the agency and the booth builder, busy for the last couple of weeks. The container, which weighs about five tons and requires 15 kilowatts of power, was to be equipped with a complete interior construction that comprised ten oversized video screens, 60 meters of LED strip, and about 570 meters of cables and wiring. The entire planning had to be completed within the very short time of only three weeks, and all construction work was completed within 17 days – just in time to ensure that the »Power Booth« is ready for operation at Linkin Park’s first tour date.

We will keep you up to date about everything that’s going on in the »Power Booth« during the Linkin Park tour. So stay tuned to our blog and to our Twitter channel, and meet you during the tour!
