SCANIFY Handheld 3D Scanner: Quality 3D Scanning for Under US$1500

Fuel3D launched an affordable, quality 3D scanner at International CES in Las Vegas last week. The SCANIFY Handheld 3D Scanner is aimed at 3D printer owners who can’t afford a top level, professional 3D scanner, such as the HandySCAN 3D by Creaform. In the words of Stuart Mead, CEO, Fuel3D the company’s “goal was to democratize the 3D movement for consumers” he claims the “SCANIFY allows consumers to transform highly complex subjects into high detail, full-color 3D scans as quickly as they could take a photo using a digital camera.”

The technology used in the scanner was developed at Oxford University and allows the device to capture three-dimensional objects in a super fast time of just 1/10 of a second. Other features that will attract potential customer is the scanner’s affordability, it is retailling for approximately USD$1490, and its ability to capture color details down to 350 microns (0.35mm). There are other 3D scanners on the market around this price, but none would seem to have the image quality that the SCANIFY possesses.
