Condensation and moisture are some of the main causes of damage to goods shipped in containers.

How do they arise? And which is the solution?

If you ship goods by sea you know all about the damage caused by condensation inside containers.

Condensation is simply the result of a combination of the natural temperature fluctuations of day and night and high levels of ambient humidity and it is caused by a rapid lowering of temperature. This causes water particles to change from a gaseous state to a liquid state so, simply, the moisture in the air becomes water.

If this happens on a window at home or on the inside of a car window during a storm, with a common cloth we can dry it without consequences, but it might be some consequences if this happens in a container on a 30-day sea voyage.

Condensation is responsible of more than 10% of damages on goods transported by container that can travel several weeks or months before arriving at its destination. Unless it is an expensive temperature-controlled container, environmental conditions on board are impossible to monitor and may cause damage, also irreparable, to your goods. In a warm and damp environment, the most common problem is the rain effect, but others include the proliferation of molds and fungi.

To prevent these kind of problems it’s essential to enlist the aid of an expert who can accurately analyze your needs and advise you on how to reduce the moisture - the only variable that can be altered, since the other crucial factor, temperature, is also hard to control during transport. By reducing the amount of moisture inside the container, we can delay the dew point or condensation point; as described above, this is the point where moisture turns into liquid.

Propagroup is specialized in the protection of goods against moisture, and is at your disposal to provide scientific analysis and resolution of your problems, working with you to find the best solution for your shipment.

Thanks to more than 50 years' experience in the sector, Propagroup has developed various responses including the Propadry System, a range of very powerful moisture absorbers designed for use inside containers. The extraordinary absorption capacity of the Propadry tray means the amount of moisture present in the container can be effectively reduced throughout the journey, thus solving your problem.
