Bourdon tube pressure gauges for your pressure measurement

How does a Bourdon tube pressure gauge work?

Bourdon pressure gauges are the most commonly used mechanical pressure measuring instruments for relative pressure, absolute pressure and differential pressure. Their measuring element is a Bourdon tube, also known as a Bourdon spring. The French engineer and instrument maker Eugène Bourdon patented this measuring principle in 1848. The functional principle of the Bourdon tube is based on an elastic spring and a circularly bent tube with an oval cross-section.

The circularly bent Bourdon tubes can be used to indicate overpressures up to 1600 bar and underpressures (vacuum) up to -1 bar of non-highly viscous and non-crystallising media, gases or vapours. For higher pressures from 60 bar, coil spring pressure gauges are widely used. Diaphragm pressure gauges or capsule pressure gauges are often used for low pressures.

The display accuracy is between ± 0.1% and ± 2.5% of the measuring range value. Depending on the application, the Bourdon tube is made of non-ferrous metal or, for aggressive media, of resistant material such as stainless steel 1.4571, 1.4404 or Monel.

Mechanical Bourdon tube pressure gauges do not require an external power supply. Often these mechanical pressure gauges are used in safety-relevant installations, as they function perfectly even in the event of a power failure.

Even customising of pressure gauges in your desired design is possible. Whether with your logo or company name, customised units or measuring ranges: Many pressure gauges can be customised individually and cost-effectively. This is how we meet the requirements of modern customers in industry from all over the world.

Where are Bourdon tube pressure gauges used?

Bourdon tube pressure gauges are versatile pressure measuring devices that are used in many industries to measure the pressure in the system accurately and reliably. For example, pressure gauges are used in food, beverage, chemical and heating-ventilation-air conditioning systems, power plants and refineries to monitor pressure in liquid and gas lines.
