Simple and reliable plastic and composite gear testing with the MTP series test rig

The MTP Series, the most innovative and advanced range of cylindrical plastic gear and tribology test stands on the market, enables you to obtain critical data about your materials that are indispensable for gear and power transmission designs.

Material testing is an essential part of modern product development. At RD Motion, we made it our mission to help companies streamline their R&D processes by obtaining useful material data faster and more reliably. The MTP Series test stand fully embodies this mission, offering versatility, modularity, compactness, ease of use and fast data acquisition.

The conception of the MTP system stemmed from the realization that there were no solutions on the market for gear testing that could properly address the specific physical properties of polymers and composites. We realized that this was primarily due to the fact that most gear test rigs were developed primarily for metals. This resulted in polymer properties such as temperature dependence, high deformability, strain rate dependence, etc. not being adequately considered. In addition, we were often faced with limitations such as a non-adjustable center distance (which is problematic when testing different gear geometries), unfavorable test rig sizes with devices taking up unreasonable amounts of space, and an exorbitant price tag.

The MTP line strives to address these issues by offering a very compact test rig, roughly the size of an average refrigerator, at a still affordable price, capable of performing lifetime tests on spur or helical plastic/composite gear pairs under continuously adjustable load and sample temperature conditions. In addition, the MTP system has been developed in a modular way to offer various functionalities that can be customized to your specific requirements. It is thus possible to extend the basic module for gear testing with load and specimen temperature control, which is the standard version, with functions such as tribological twin-disk testing, controlled specimen cooling down to -40 °C and lubrication with tempered oil.

The test stand is positioned in a vertical housing that also contains all the necessary power supply components, the cooling system and the sensor electronics in one package. The control and measurement software, supplied free of charge, can be installed on any standard laptop. The test bench is fully enclosed and additionally insulated to minimize noise emission and ensure complete protection of the operator.
