"CUBIC CONCEPT" for Machine-tool Axis Drive
Cubic concept entails that the machine frame on which the axis drives are fitted is no longer part of the machine but part of the drive itself. It allows eliminating the need to design and integrate high-precision fixation extensions to the main machine frame. It greatly simplifies the design, saves many hours of stiffness simulation on sophisticated 3D CAD software, and even more on real test proof campaigns. It also facilitates the implementation process with very simple machining shapes for the fixation interfaces. This innovative advantage allows to save up to 20% on TCD (Total Cost of Design) and TCM (Total Cost of Manufacturing).
Each machine subassembly and component must keep the global stiffness at the same level as the main frame, to avoid lowering the global dynamic performances.
The core components of REDEX'' axis drives are very-low-backlash and very-high-stiffness planetary reducers, fully embedded in their own cubic frame, and ready to be fitted to the machine mainframe exactly as if it would be a part of the frame itself.
Innovative design & Increased dynamic features
The output pinions are machined to the same diameter as the shafts, giving the best possible balance between transmissible torque and rigidity "at-the-rack". The output bearing consists of 2 preloaded and substantially oversized angular contact roller bearings, which enable to hold the pinion closest to the force. Only the thickness of the fastening nut separates the pinion from the output bearing. It dramatically reduces radial bending, which is usually responsible for 60% of overall distortion.
The structures of the Cubic concept drive''s housings have been optimized with FEM analysis methods to avoid any deflection during acceleration.
The result is an increased dynamic working range, leading to the ability to drive heavier loads at higher speeds. The ultra-high stiffness combined with low inertia enables higher accelerations (up to 25 m/s²) and improves the natural frequencies of the axis drive systems on the machines.
Ultra high stiffness, turnkey solutions, and eco-design, are not just theoretical targets for REDEX engineers, but essential improvement applied to advanced machine-tool''s axis-drives. The company´s trend settings solutions offer to the machine builders an easier integration, a better efficiency, a longer lifetime, and make innovation and new design more risk-free than ever for them.
