Angus Fire cuts costs and reduces production downtime with the help of Self-Cleaning Russell Eco Filter®

Angus Fire, a global leader in the development and manufacturing of firefighting technology, sought to improve their final check screening process of their foam concentrate prior to packaging. Having experienced problems with their existing filters, the company approached Russell Finex for a new filtration system who supplied their unique Self-Cleaning Russell Eco Filter®.

The company was initially using bag filters to undertake this final check screening. However, as the insoluble compounds collected in the felt filter bag, they would eventually block needing replacement. When this happened production would stop for the bags to be changed. With such incidences occurring up to three times a day the costs involved in replacing the bags along with the associated production downtime were considerable. Furthermore, changing the bags was a laborious and messy operation.

The installation of the Self-Cleaning Russell Eco Filter® overcame these problems. With its unique SpiroKlene™ wiper system this Self-Cleaning Russell Eco Filter® continuously cleans the surface of the filter element, meaning frequent blockages were no longer occurring. Production rates were also increased because stoppages to change the filter bags were no longer required. In addition, as the filter element is a reusable stainless steel microscreen, the continual costs associated with disposing of bag filters were removed.

Jim Redfern, Process Engineer at Angus Fire comments “Not only do we have a more efficient operation, but we also have reduced waste and have improved our carbon footprint as the filter bags are no longer going to landfill. The operational benefits from the machine were so great that it has paid for itself within a year.”
