Sany Takes Part in South African Power Plant Construction

Over 40 units of Sany machinery were used on the Kusile Power Plant construction site in Witbank, South Africa. The lineup included a number of Sany crawler cranes, truck cranes and rough-terrain cranes.

Kusile Power Plant is one of the South African Department of Energy and state electricity utility Eskom’s key investment projects.

With a total investment of US$14 billion and installed capacity of 4,800 megawatts, Kusile Power Plant is the largest thermal power station in South Africa and the fourth-largest in the world.

SCC7500, Sany’s 750-ton hydraulic crawler crane, is the largest-tonnage machine to be ever exported to Africa from China; it was also the largest crane on site, and was used to lift the plant’s head cover.

Supported by unique counterweight mobile technology and double-hook lifting, SCC7500 successfully lifted the 152-ton plant cover 65 meters (213 feet) high. Sany’s South African customers were highly impressed by the crane’s superior lifting capacity, and its highly-efficient and reliable performance.
