Schildknecht launches IIoT solution

IoT Ready-to-use: DATAEAGLE Condition Monitoring System for Machines

A powerful "Condition Monitoring", i.e. the condition monitoring from the distance of motors, pumps and other industrial plant components, is currently one of the most common business models in the context of IIoT or Industry 4.0. The hardware and software components required for such a solution are

(1) Sensors for continuous recording of the relevant condition data at the machines,

(2) an IoT gateway for receiving and pre-processing sensor data and providing the connectivity required for data forwarding; and

(3) a cloud portal with the functions data analysis and result visualization.

The development of such a complex, globally functional information path requires the use of different, proven technologies as well as relevant experience. These requirements are currently preventing smaller companies without their own IT department from implementing them, but this can have a negative impact on their competitive position. The new DATAEAGLE Condition Monitoring System from Schildknecht AG, which provides the user with the hardware and software required for such a business model, right up to cost accounting in a complete package including intensive consulting, offers an effective remedy here.

This solution is implemented through a cooperation between the industrial radio specialist Schildknecht AG and Bosch Connected Devices and Solutions GmbH, with Bosch contributing its multi-sensor unit CISS (Connected Industrial Sensor Solution, Fig. 1, left) to the complete system. The multi-sensor is specifically designed for monitoring machines and their operating environment and is mounted on the machine surface. There, it can detect up to eight significant physical parameters such as temperature, humidity, pressure or vibration, as well as noise, brightness, acceleration values or changes in position, for the safe operation of a machine. The values determined are then transmit-ted from the CISS via Bluetooth Low Energy to the DATAEAGLE 2730 (Fig. 1, right) Schildknecht IoT Gateway. There a data pre-processing takes place, which also includes the one-time learning and remembering of the “well” status, against which the current values determined subsequently are compared and evaluated. For further use, the data is then transmitted via mobile radio to the DA-TAEAGLE portal, the proven Schildknecht cloud, by means of the eSIM card integrated in the gateway and valid globally with many hundreds of network operators; there, a further data analysis is carried out including a presentation of the results via a dashboard (Fig. 2). If predefined limit values are exceeded, corresponding alarms can also be triggered and transmitted and displayed in the same way.

The solution presented is designed for user-friendliness and user benefit: The Condition Monitoring System comprises all the components required for the rapid development of an IIoT solution, including consulting, in a single package. The system is independent of the availability of local Internet ac-cess and can be used worldwide, which can significantly reduce the travel costs of service personnel, among other things. The results are displayed on a central dashboard and can be accessed by any number of (authorized) users. And finally: The running costs are basically low, independent of the location of the monitored machines and the billing of the connection costs is part of the scope of delivery.

In summary, the new Schildknecht "Condition Monitoring System for Machines" forms the basic equipment for a technically mature and particularly cost-effective access to the IIoT world at short notice. It is particularly suitable for new projects of smaller companies without their own IT department; further areas of application can be found in the retrofitting of plants in operation or in the OEM area with direct installation in machines.

The new system will be presented for the first time at Sensor+Test in Nuremberg from 25 to 27 June 2019. Schildknecht AG Hall 5 Stand 106/11-13.
