Seeed Studio Unveils SenseCAP S700-C: Bringing Industrial-Grade Radar Weather Sensing to the Mass IoT Market
By replacing fragile mechanical components with solid-state radar and ultrasonic technology, the SenseCAP S700-C weather station offers uninterrupted rain, snow, hail, and wind monitoring in the world’s harshest environments.
For decades, deploying a remote weather station has meant accepting a painful compromise: high maintenance costs or frequent data gaps. Traditional mechanical sensors—such as tipping-bucket rain gauges and cup-and-vane wind meters—are prone to fail in long-term deployments. They freeze in winter, clog with leaves in autumn, and wear out from constant friction.
To break this cycle of high maintenance and unreliable data, Seeed Studio has launched the SenseCAP S700-C, an industrial-grade, all-in-one compact weather station. By engineering a 100% solid-state architecture with zero moving parts, the S700-C redefines what is possible in remote environmental monitoring.
The Three Tech Breakthroughs of the SenseCAP S700-C
Doppler Radar Sensing Technology
Unlike traditional tipping buckets that only measure liquid rainfall, the S700-C features a high-precision 60GHz Radar sensor.
The Advantage: It measures the size and velocity of falling droplets, allowing it to accurately detect, distinguish, and measure rain, snow, and hail.
The Impact: Since there is no physical funnel to clog, the sensor requires zero cleaning or maintenance, ensuring continuous data flow during autumn leaf drops or winter blizzards.
Ultrasonic Wind Measurement
Mechanical wind cups requires a certain amount of wind to start monitoring, and they wear out over time, leading to friction and inaccurate low-wind readings.
The Advantage: The S700-C utilizes ultrasonic sound waves to calculate wind speed and direction with no physical wear.
The Impact: It maintains factory-level calibration and accuracy over years of operation, eliminating the need for regular field recalibration.
7-in-1 Industrial Integration meeting IP66 Standards
Instead of purchasing, wiring, and mounting multiple separate sensors, the S700-C integrates 7 critical parameters into a single, sleek, highly ruggedized unit:
Air Temperature, Relative Humidity, Barometric Pressure, Light Intensity, Precipitation/Snow/Hail, Wind Speed, and Wind Direction.
The Impact: It reduces installation time from hours to minutes and lowers the total cost of ownership (TCO) for large-scale IoT deployments.
Designed for the “Unreachable” Locations
“When you are deploying weather sensors on top of a mountain for landslide warning, or in the middle of a 1,000-acre smart orchard, sending a technician to fix a stuck wind vane is a logistical nightmare,” said Jenkin, Product Manager at Seeed Studio. “We built the SenseCAP S700-C for the ‘unreachable’ spots. It is a true ‘set-and-forget’ system designed to deliver high-fidelity data under the most brutal outdoor conditions.”
Optimized for Mass IoT Integration
The SenseCAP S700-C is fully compatible with standard industrial communication protocols, including RS485 (Modbus-RTU) and SDI-12, fully interoperable with existing data loggers and industrial systems. Besides, Seeed also offers a plug-and-play seamless integration experience with SenseCAP Sensor Hub 4G Data Logger and SenseCAP S2100 LoRaWAN DTU for quick configuration and deployment.
