What Are the Three Types of Conveyor Belts?

This is a practical question for understanding conveyor system basics! The three most common and widely used types of conveyor belts are rubber conveyor belts, modular plastic conveyor belts, and metal conveyor belts.

1. Rubber Conveyor Belts
The most traditional and versatile type, made of rubber (natural or synthetic) with fabric or steel cord reinforcement layers.
Suitable for bulk material transportation (e.g., coal, ore, grain) in mining, ports, and power plants.
Advantages: High tensile strength, good flexibility, and resistance to wear; disadvantages: Susceptible to oil/grease damage and not ideal for high-temperature environments.
2. Modular Plastic Conveyor Belts
Composed of interlocking plastic modules (usually PP or PE), assembled into a continuous belt.
Widely used in food processing, packaging, and logistics (e.g., sorting lines, assembly lines).
Advantages: Easy to clean (hygienic for food industry), corrosion-resistant, and replaceable modules; disadvantages: Lower load-bearing capacity than rubber or metal belts.
3. Metal Conveyor Belts
Made of metal materials like stainless steel, carbon steel, or mesh wire, formed into chains, slats, or mesh structures.

Applied in high-temperature, heavy-load, or harsh environments (e.g., foundries, heat treatment, mining for sharp materials).
Advantages: High temperature resistance, strong load-bearing capacity, and durability; disadvantages: Higher cost, heavier weight, and less flexibility.
