Selection of Joysticks – SIBO engineers help you choose!

We’d like to sort out some basic elements of joystick selection for you, so that you no longer feel that the joystick selection is difficult!

1 Mechanical Options

1.1 Size Dimensions

The size of the joystick generally refers to the size of the joystick body. This parameter affects the required installation space of the joystick. Therefore, when selecting a product, please first determine the corresponding size according to the installation space reserved for the joystick in the equipment. We have several size of joystick series that are available to meet customers’ various aplications.

1.2 Operating Mode

The operation modes of joysticks are divided into 1-dimensional coordinate, 2-dimensional coordinate, 3-dimensional coordinate and multi-dimensional coordinate. Available directions of operation mode as below illustration:

1-dimensional Coordiante

I: I figure(Y) directional operating type (Y);

2-dimensional Cordinate

C (X): Cross directional operating of X and Y type;

Q:Square-directional 360°operating type;

O:Omni-directional 360°operating angle ;

3-dimensional cordinate or multi-dimensional cordinate means that additional control axes are added on the 2-dimensional operation mode, which can realize this function, including miniature finger joysticks, seesaw potentiometer, thumbwheel, etc.

1.3 Action Mode

The main modes of action of the joystick are with spring return device and with friction- positioning.

With spring return device joysticks can return to its original position without external force. The position is usually in the center. For 1-dimensional coordinate joystick, it may also be the end of a certain direction.

With friction positioning joystick can stop at any operating position.

For some applications with higher safety requirements, you can also select the joysticks with locking mechanism. The locking position of this kind of joysticks is usually in the middle position or at the ends of both sides.

1.4 Knobs

According to the use scenarios and needs of joystick products, the joystick product handles can be selected to achieve different functions. In addition to the above-mentioned 3-dimentioal coordiante and the special self-locking mechanism which requires special knobs to achieve, other optional knobs are available, including: various shapes of grip knobs, knobs with 1 pc push button switch, knobs with 2 pcs push button switches, and other optional knobs.

1.5 Others

In addition, You can also select the stop positions, special installation panel, special lever length, special operating force and so on in accordance with your requirments.

2 Electrical Options

2.1 Potentiometers incorporated

Our joysticks can be realized analog signal output by installing a potentiometer inside or outside the joystick body. According to the different application environment and signal requirements, we divide joysticks into three categories: resistance potentiometer, non-contact potentiometer, and resistance potentiometer with signal convertion module.

The resistance potentiometer can be optionally equipped with an additional terminal;

The non-contact potentiometer can select different output signals, such as: 5V applied voltage and 0 ~ 5V output, 15 ~ 30V applied voltage and 0 ~ 10V output, 15 ~ 30V applied voltage and 4 ~ 20mA output, also available for customized special output curves, like V-shaped output, center-holding, etc.

Adding a signal conversion module can realize the output of current, voltage and other different signal output.

2.2 Additional Switches

When the joystick needs extra switch signals, you can select to install push button switch or microswitch in accordance with the function requirement. You can selecte the monentary type push button switch or the maintained type push button switch. Special optional push button switch with ligh , push button switch with high-capacity switch, etc. are also available. The trigger angle of microswitches can be customized to realize the functions of center switch, direction switch and end switch.

2.3 Signal Convertion Module

All joysticks of SIBO can be added with signal convertion module produced by SIBO to achieve various analog signal outputs, such as: 10V ~ 0 ~ 10V, - 10V ~ + 10V, and 4 ~ 20mA. We can also provide CANbus, Modbus and other BUS type products to meet customer needs, greatly expanding the types of output signals.

The above description contains some key points of joystick selection, hope it can help you to make the selection, of course, you can also tell us the functional requirements, we have a professional technical team to assist you in the selection. Leave the hardest part to us, we will provide the best products to you.
