Analysis of current situation:

An electric arc furnace as equipment to smelt ore at high temperature, has the advantage of flexible techniques, easily controlled furnace temperature and small land area, and it has been widely applied in metallurgical industry. An electric arc furnace can be categorized into three-phase electric arc furnace, consumable electric arc furnace, single-phase electric arc furnace and resistor electric arc furnace according to forms of arc. However, an electric arc furnace’s being connected to the grid as non-linear and irregular load will result in serious three-phase unbalance of grid, generating negative sequence current and a great deal of high sub-harmonic, serious voltage fluctuation and flickering, and power factor is low.

With the fastest response speed of about 5ms, the system can meet strict technical requirements, supply reactive power current and stable bus grid voltage to electric arc furnace, increase metallurgic output of active power, improve production efficiency and reduce influence of flickering to maximum. Phase compensation function of iSVG can eliminate three-phase unbalance caused by electric arc furnace, filter unit can eliminate harmful high sub-harmonic and improve power factor by providing capacitive reactive power for the system.
