Application Case: Wave Buoy for Ocean Monitoring

Featuring DDM350 Compass , AKF392 triaxial accelerometer

Overview
A wave buoy is a marine monitoring device designed to float on the sea surface and move with ocean waves. It plays a critical role in collecting real-time data on wave characteristics such as height, period, and direction, as well as other ocean parameters including current velocity, temperature, and salinity.

System Composition
The wave buoy typically consists of a buoy body, sensor system, data processing unit, and wireless transmission module. At the core of the system is the sensor suite, which includes an accelerometer, gyroscope, and electronic compass. These sensors work together to capture the six degrees of freedom (6-DOF) motion of the buoy, from which wave properties are derived using advanced algorithms.

Key Applications
Inclination angle measurement range: pitch ±85°, roll angle ±180°
With hard magnetic, soft magnetic and tilt angle compensation
Standard RS232/RS485/TTL output interface
Wide temp. range: -40℃~+85℃
Inclination resolution: 0.1°
Inclination accuracy: 0.2°
Azimuth angle accuracy: 0.8°
DC 5V power supply
IP67 waterproof rating
Dimension: L55×W37×H24mm
To ensure precise wave direction detection, the DDM350 digital compass is recommended for integration into wave buoy systems. It provides high-accuracy heading data, even in harsh offshore environments.

Key Applications:
Typhoon early warning systems
Offshore wind farm operation & maintenance
Polar scientific expeditions
Ocean climate research
Harbor safety monitoring
