New reader with maximum sensor resolution

Siemens adds new Simatic MV560 X optical reader and powerful accessories to portfolio

Siemens is expanding its high-end Simatic MV500 series of optical readers to include the Simatic MV560 X. With 5.3 megapixels, the device features the highest resolution in the product family. Like the MV560 U model, the MV560 X has two separate Ethernet ports and a working memory of 2 Gigabytes. Due to the high image resolution, the new device is ideal for reading particularly small codes in large image fields or numerous codes on large objects. In addition, the Simatic MV560 X can be used to implement completely new applications – even on fast-running production lines. A large number of images can also be stored directly on the camera without problems.

Like the Simatic MV560 U, the new Simatic MV560 X reader also features a scan mode, which can be used to separate image capture and image processing. A series of images is stored directly on the reader. This stored image series ensures reliable reading, even with fast-moving objects. In addition, the expanded memory improves diagnostics by providing larger amounts of diagnostic information, such as error images. This increases plant availability.

In addition to the new Simatic MV560 X optical reader, the portfolio for the entire Simatic MV500 series has been expanded to include a large number of high-performance, individually configurable accessories. e-focus lenses are now available in five focal lengths, which automatically focus the object to be captured, so that manual intervention by the user is not required. New, flexibly controllable ring lights have also been added. They switch automatically between different lighting variants. In addition, a large number of metal lens protection tubes in different lengths with an integrated optical filter concept in the area of the windshield are now also available for different lighting scenarios.

Thanks to the modular design of the Simatic MV500 devices, the automatic focusing and software-controlled selection of the illumination, an extremely wide range of image processing applications can be implemented easily and reliably – even under changing production conditions and in difficult light situations. Configuration via web-based management and integration into the TIA (Totally Integrated Automation) Portal facilitates configuration. One-button configuration for network parameters enables IP (Internet Protocol) addresses for a connected PC to be assigned automatically. Admin rights are not required here. One-button configuration for read parameters, by contrast, allows the read parameters, the lens focus, and the illumination to be automatically set directly on the device without opening the web-based management. Since all MV500 devices feature a compact design and IP67 degree of protection (protection against the ingress of water and foreign bodies), they are ideal for use in confined spaces and in harsh industrial environments.

The optical readers are connected to cloud applications via the Simatic S7-1500 controller and the CP1545-1 communications processor. In addition, connection is also possible via a new generation Simatic RF18xC/CI communication module and an Industrial IoT gateway such as Simatic CC716 (in preparation).
