New ultrasonic level transmitter for hazardous locations

Measures liquids and slurries in environmental, chemical, oil and gas applications

Siemens is expanding its ultrasonic level transmitter portfolio by adding the non-contacting transmitter Sitrans LU180.

The new level transmitter comes with ATEX,FM, CSA, and IECEx approvals for use in hazardous locations. With its range of up to five meters (16 feet), the Sitrans LU180 incorporates the sensor and the electronics in a single compact unit and is suitable for continuous level measurement of liquids and slurries in open or closed vessels. With its high IP68 protection rating, the device has a rugged, fully encapsulated PVDF (polyvinylidene fluoride) sensor that is resistant to corrosion, chemicals and extreme shock. The new level transmitter is suited primarily for use in hazardous locations in environmental, chemical, oil and gas applications.

With only two cables to be connected, the Sitrans LU180 can be quickly and easily installed. Its two-key interface makes it simple to configure and easy to use.

The Sonic Intelligence signal processing software delivers reliable measurement readings by differentiating, for example, between the true material level and false echoes.
