Compact rotary encoders up to SIL2/PLd for port and offshore areas

In the port and offshore sector, automation solutions have been increasingly in use for years. Efficiency, reliability and safety are the top priorities here.

With the trend towards automation, the demands on the sensor technology, which must be as compact and safe as possible, are also increasing. With the new rotary encoders WV3600MO and WV3600MOR, sensor specialist SIKO presents a suitable solution for the automation requirements of port and offshore machines.

The new absolute multiturn encoders WV3600MO and WV3600MOR for port and offshore applications with a diameter of only 36mm are one of the most compact solutions on the market. They impress users due to their robustness and longevity. Thanks to a special design principle and the materials used, both rotary encoders have a very high salt mist resistance and corrosion resistance according to EN 60068-2-52 Severity 5. With a shaft load capacity of up to 200 N, high shock and vibration resistance as well as protection ratings of IP67 and optionally IP6K9K, the two rotary encoders are also ideally suited for applications such as ship or gantry cranes. In particular, applications which, as a result of the design, have little installation space available benefit from the compact rotary encoders.

Robust and durable

The non-contact magnetic measurement technology supports the reliability and durability of the rotary encoders. The wear-free measuring principle, in conjunction with the mechatronic multiturn system, allows reliable and long-lasting operation over a measuring range of up to 65,536 revolutions (16 bits). Even at the lowest temperatures, these rotary encoders work maintenance-free and particularly efficiently for years.

Safer use up to SIL2/PLd

With the WV3600MOR, a safety variant is also available. This absolute multiturn rotary encoder certified according to SIL2 and PLd can be used for safety-critical applications in the port and offshore sector.

Digital and flexible

The sensors are optionally available with a CANopen or SAE J1939 interface. The safety variant with SIL2/PLd can be combined with a CANopen safety interface. Important for predictive maintenance: In addition to the process data, the rotary encoders can also provide further useful information on the operating state of the system and of the sensor. The electrical connection in the system is just as simple as the mounting: Thus, the encoders are available radially or axially, optionally with an M12 stainless steel plug, a cable outlet with a special offshore cable or alternatively with a DEUTSCH or AMP Superseal plug.
