The Sofraser MIVI viscometer obtains ATEX Ex-proof certification for Zone 0

A pioneer in viscosity measurement, Sofraser is pleased to announce that its MIVI tuning-type viscometer has now obtained ATEX Ex-proof certification for uses in Zone 0.

The ATEX certification arises from two European directives for equipment intended to be used in hazardous environments. These dangerous areas are classified in zones of risk according to the frequency and duration of presence of the explosive atmosphere. In zone 0, explosive gases are present continuously or for long periods of time.

Explosion-proof rated type “d” for more than 30 years, including ATEX, FM Class I Div 1, JIS, KGS, the MIVI viscometer can now be used in all hazardous areas up to and including Zone 0 (explosive atmosphere continuously present). With an intrinsically safe design, the MIVI includes a protection for safe use in hazardous area by limiting the energy available for ignition under any circumstances.

Oil refining and petrochemicals processes often operate with the presence of combustible gases and vapor. With these new certification, the MIVI viscometer perfectly matches with the industry requirements. Moreover, made from 316L stainless steel, the MIVI viscometer has no wearing parts and requires very low maintenance. It represents a real optimization of production cost for manufacturers.
