Modified central reservoir system for pharma innovations

Modified central reservoir system for pharma innovations

There is nothing that the SR TEK team likes more than a challenge and this was certainly the case when we received an enquiry from the United States from the development arm of build to print machining company.

Frustrated by the lack of precision in many aspects of pharmaceutical engineering, director of automation from Paradigm-Solutions, David Duncan knew there had to be an easier way to dispense fluid in engineering with precision. Overly complicated dispensing systems with programmable servo drives appeared to be the only solution on the market, but still required operators to make continuous adjustments and led to fluid wastage to compensate for the inability to be accurate and precise with fluid volumes.

Fortunately, an internet search found that SR TEK’s CT Series could be modified and would work as a central reservoir alongside the client’s main machine.

The CT Series was modified to have a removable clear internal canister, which allowed the development engineers to add capacitive sensors which were tied into the safety circuit at the side of the tank. This meant that any overflow could be detected within the reservoir and preventing material from escaping into the local environment

Within a highly regulated industry, such as pharmaceuticals, you have to be hyper-aware of debris and bioburden, which is bacteria or particles that can lie on an unsterilised surface. SR-TEK’s clear pressure tank offer a visual, early indication for operators which means less unchecked issues which can lead to quality defects or product recalls.”

In addition to the safety features, the flexibility of the SR-TEK clear pressure tank meant that David could place the tank wherever he needed in order to transport the fluid to the dispenser. David and his team could locate the supply side assembly ergonomically or as needed for transfer of dispensing material. A gravity-fed system would need to be directly above the sensitive electronic components of the dispenser, with the risk of overspill causing damage to components or adversely impacting the finished product.

SR-Tek founder Loris Medart worked closely with David on the design of the clear pressure tank integrated into the Paradigm Dispensing Systems. David says: “What I liked about working with Loris, was that he actively worked with me to help us save costs and time. Providing the benefit of his own fluid engineering experience he enabled us to make small changes to an existing clear pressure tank already in stock to fit with our specific application, avoiding us having to pursue a more costly custom design and build project.”

Loris concludes: “When I first spoke to David at Paradigm, I was struck by the parallels both in our careers and fluid engineering solutions. We’ve both come from industry and have noticed a technological gap in the management of fluids. Paradigm’s dispenser offers unparalleled precision at a lower cost than existing systems. Coupling with the CT Series means that production engineers can benefit from complete transparency and control from start to finish, reducing materials waste and avoiding unnecessary downtime.”

Paradigm Dispensing Systems are available in standard 1ml, 5ml, and 30ml volumes as well as custom sizes.
