Case Study. Applying Continuous Infrared Camera Technology and Software at Puget Sound Energy

Saw the Heat Before the Fire: How Puget Sound Energy Transformed Turbine Safety with Continuous Infrared Monitoring

This case-study chronicles how Puget Sound Energy (PSE) deployed our fixed-mount infrared camera system, the SYTIS TC-90™, across their wind-turbine nacelles to solve chronic safety and reliability issues that once defied diagnosis. It shows how continuous, real-time thermal and optical imaging let them safely peer into live, energized cabinets, catching overheating contactors, wires and fuses reaching 180 °C+ (far beyond safe specs) that had previously escaped detection with adhesive strips, thermocouples or manual inspection. With the TC-90™, PSE avoided arc-flash hazards, slashed unnecessary tower climbs, cut preventive-maintenance load by more than half and turned hidden fire risks into actionable data. The study illustrates concrete gains: fewer accidents, less downtime, clearer diagnostics and a compelling argument for continuous thermal monitoring as the new preventive-maintenance standard for utilities and renewables.
