TECHNIFOR PRECISION LASER MARKING FOR ASHTON JIG AND TOOL

Lancashire-based Ashton Jig and Tool Company Limited have invested in one of the very latest laser marking technologies from Technifor Limited, which is part of the Gravotech Group. The machine, a Technifor Class 1 LW3 Laser Workstation, is equipped with a Technifor F20 Fibre Laser marking machine, a device renowned for its ability to precision mark a wide range of metals, as well as ceramics and ABS plastics.

“I first became interested in purchasing our own laser marking capability when a specific request from a longstanding customer earlier this year meant I would have to consider outsourcing traceability markings on a number of circular bronze components,” comments Ashton Tool and Jig managing director, Jon Clifton. “I am incredibly proud of the quality of work we produce and decided the time was right to invest in our own laser marking machinery.”

Fully understood requirements

“Seeing the considerable potential that existed for sub-contract laser engraving, I approached two manufacturers for advice, one of which was Technifor,” adds John Clifton. “Not only did Technifor demonstrate a thorough understanding of my requirements, they provided all the information I needed to make the right decision. As a result of their guidance, I was able to select a machine that was sufficiently versatile to meet a wide range of customer requirements. The machine was also installed promptly – all in good time for me to fulfil the order that would have otherwise been outsourced.”

Able to accommodate larger components

The LW3 Workstation purchased by Ashton Jig and Tool is one of the larger ‘standard order’ workstations produced by Technifor; it was chosen for its ability to accommodate larger components. At the heart of the workstation is a Technifor F20 Fibre Laser marking machine – a model selected for its capabilities in precision-marking an extensive range of metals and ABS plastics. To enable cylindrical objects to be engraved, the machine was specified with an optional 4th axis, a rotary attachment that allows for the marking and engraving of cylindrical parts.

Traceability and logo marking to 100% inspection

“Extremely user friendly, our Technifor system was installed in under a day and is located in its own clean-room environment,” says Jon Clifton. “The quality of the marking is outstanding and will be particularly ideal for traceability and logo marking. In fact, we have already secured a significant order that is subject to 100% component inspection. I am in no-doubt, whatsoever, that the machine will deliver.”
