Expansion of the spherical roller bearings range
Design optimization and range expansion
The spherical roller bearing with optimized surface areas, load distribution, friction values and cage design by The Timken Company (NSYE: TKR; www.timken.com) is one of the focal points of the company right now.
The newly extended program covers a complete range of steel and brass cages with sizes of up to 1250 mm bore diameter. "The growing demand clearly indicates that users appreciate this complete offering from a single source - as well as the innovative features of our high-performance bearings," Hasso Haibach, General Manager at Timken Germany, described the range offensive.
Higher loads - longer useful life
Optimized profiles reduce internal tension, resulting in improved load distribution and minimized wear. At the same time, the extended rollers provide larger surface areas for bearing of the radial and axial forces. This allows for applications with higher loads.
In addition, high-quality surface finishes provide for a particularly valuable double effect: Reduced friction and improved lubricant film maintenance. The resulting decrease in operating temperature also results in a longer useful life.
The versions with hardened steel cages also have extra high fatigue strength and wear resistance, and form an ideal protection for shock loads and acceleration processes.
Improved design - reduced friction
The absence of the central guide ring is a special feature of the new bearing design with steel cages. Instead, the bearing rollers are guided in cage pockets. This eliminates a significant friction point. This yields several positive effects, as demonstrated by testing. On the one hand, the operating temperatures are reduced by an average of 5˚C compared to competitive products. Secondly, the operating torque is reduced by up to four percent. This, in turn, results in a significant reduction in drive system energy needs, and thus greater efficiency.
