Single Crystal Sapphire for Extreme Applications
Pushing Precision Limits in Material Mastery
Sapphire (Al₂O₃) is a highly suitable material for advanced industrial applications thanks to its outstanding combination of properties. It offers exceptional hardness, high resistance to heat, excellent chemical stability, and broad optical transparency from ultraviolet to infrared. These characteristics make it ideal for use in demanding environments, such as aerospace, optics, and semiconductor manufacturing.
Compared to fused silica, sapphire is significantly superior in terms of mechanical and thermal performance. It is more than twice as hard, has much higher flexural strength, and maintains dimensional stability even at high temperatures, making it the better choice for extreme conditions.
The material can also be precisely machined to create custom components with very tight tolerances, including intricate shapes, small holes, and specialized parts. Its versatility makes it widely used in aerospace and defense, semiconductor tools, laser and infrared optics, medical devices, scientific instruments, and systems operating under high pressure or in a vacuum.
