Safe speed monitoring with PROFIsafe
Monitoring of rotational speeds with the new SIL2/PLd certified speed sensor

In many vehicles, machines and plants, the speed or rotational speed of a wheel, roller or movement involved in a safety function must be monitored. This monitoring, which often takes place alongside speed control, must comply with functional safety standards. Safe multiturn encoders, which also output the speed signal, are often oversized here. For this reason, TWK has now launched a compact, safe speed/speed sensor based on a single-turn encoder. This provides a safe 16-bit speed signal with sign and a safe position with a maximum of 16384 steps/revolution (14 bits). For adaptation to the application, the time base of the speed value can be set between 10 ms and 1000 ms. The update rate is always 1 ms regardless of this.
The devices can be supplied with cable or connector output as well as in aluminium or stainless steel housing in protection classes up to IP69K.
