United Barcode Systems: Commitment to Sustainability
UBS's ‘Blue Minds’ project promotes responsible practices in environmental, community and employee wellbeing.
Ecological ink, recyclable cardboard, solar panels, equipment manufactured with renewable energy, optimisation of ink consumption... These are just some of the actions that United Barcode Systems (UBS) carries out as part of its commitment to sustainability. Under the slogan ‘Blue Minds’, the company brings together its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, with the aim of contributing to the social, economic and environmental well-being of society as a whole. In this article, we tell you more about it.
Today, sustainability in business is not just an option, but an urgent necessity. Companies have a clear responsibility to the environment and the community in which they operate. Adopting sustainable practices not only helps to preserve natural resources and mitigate climate change, but also strengthens a company's reputation, builds customer loyalty and has a positive impact on the community.
United Barcode Systems (UBS), a Spanish multinational, is aware of this responsibility and seeks to generate a positive impact on its environment. To this end, it has implemented the ‘Blue Minds’ project, through which it carries out various actions aimed at improving the environment of UBS and its subsidiaries.
Among its initiatives, UBS has installed solar panels at its headquarters in Vilassar de Mar (Barcelona), where equipment is manufactured, to generate renewable energy. It has also focused on optimising the consumption of its printers and improving the formulation of its inks, some of which are environmentally friendly, allowing the recycling of cardboard, even when marked with its APLINK printers.
UBS has its own brand of environmentally friendly inks, developed with ingredients and components that have a reduced environmental impact compared to traditional inks. These inks are designed to minimise their environmental footprint at all stages of their life cycle, from manufacture to final disposal.
This is all done within an ISO-certified quality framework. UBS is already ISO 14064 certified and is working towards ISO 14001 certification to reduce the carbon footprint generated in its production chain.
The envelopes and cartons used by UBS are also recyclable thanks to direct printing using its APLINK equipment.
UBS not only focuses on the environment, but also on the well-being of its employees, promoting flexible working, encouraging healthy habits and ensuring equality through an equality action plan, an anti-harassment protocol and the creation of an internal equality committee.
In short, sustainability is not only an ethical imperative, but also a smart business strategy for longevity and long-term success.
