Permeation testing with the help of vacuum pumps
Up to 25 years of operation – one vacuum pump
Mecadi tests barrier plastics for Mars rovers, hydrogen tanks, and deep-sea pipelines. Some of their permeation tests run for weeks under vacuum—any failure means starting over.
The application:
- Manometric permeation testing at 1-10 mbar
- Some tests with highly corrosive gases (SO₂, NH₃)
The solution:
Several vacuum pumps like the MD 4C and MZ 2C have been running for decades in continuous operation.
"The reliability of VACUUBRAND vacuum pumps is immensely important for us. Sometimes we need to keep samples under vacuum for several weeks. If there were a sudden pressure increase, all the work would be for nothing. Additionally, chemical resistance is a critical factor for some of our testing areas where we also work with highly corrosive gases." (Pascal Posse, Head of Engineering at Mecadi)
