Innovative design ensures reliable measurement data from pressure measuring cells

VEGA has completely revised its family of pressure instruments, adding a thermal shock compensation system to the ceramic measuring cells of VEGABAR 82 and VEGABAR 86. It''s the first of its kind in the world.

Users could practically write a book about thermal shock. In the past, it often took many minutes for ceramic pressure cells to recover and deliver reliable measurement data again after being exposed to extreme temperature fluctuations. At worst, it went completely unnoticed that a sensor was experiencing thermal shock and transmitting incorrect readings. This problem is now history. VEGA''s work with thermal shock compensation has resulted in a technological breakthrough. With the ceramic measuring cells of the new instrument generation, customers can be sure that they''re always getting correct and reliable measured values. Thanks to an ingenious idea, even very rapid temperature changes can no longer effect the pressure measurement.

The technical innovation that makes this possible: a second temperature sensor is now integrated into the glass seam directly behind the diaphragm. Complementing the regular temperature sensor on the backside of the CERTEC® cell, it can quickly detect even the tiniest temperature change. This means any thermal shock that occurs is fully compensated by means of a sophisticated algorithm.

VEGA has conducted extensive tests with thermal shocks ( 95 °C) and compared the previous ceramic measuring cell with the new one of VEGABAR 82. The result: convincing proof that the new CERTEC® ceramic pressure cell is totally unfazed by sudden, large jumps in temperature. This new advance now ‘leap frogs'' the other metal and ceramic pressure cell technologies for stability and reliability, when it comes to rapid temperature changes and measurements in the process.
