Vimfun Marks Wire Saw Installations in 20+ Countries as IR Optics Makers Standardize on Closed-Loop Cutting
ZHENGZHOU, China — Vimfun Diamond Wire Saw reports that its endless diamond wire cutting systems are now operating in more than 20 countries — including the United States, Germany, France, Korea, Singapore, and India — spanning university research laboratories, optics job shops, and volume lens production lines.
Among the installed base: Sunny Optical, one of the world's largest optical component manufacturers, operates more than 30 Vimfun machines across its production sites. Vimfun's optics customer list also includes Edmund Optics and Coherent, alongside advanced-materials manufacturers such as SGL Carbon and Mersen Graphite.
The company attributes the adoption curve to a structural argument: as germanium and other IR crystal prices climbed, kerf loss and subsurface damage moved from footnotes to line items, and closed-loop wire cutting — unidirectional wire at up to 80 m/s, kerf from 0.35 mm — became the front-end economics play rather than a niche technique.
Vimfun manufactures in ISO 9001-certified factories, with R&D based in Zhengzhou and production in Shanghai. Machines carry CE compliance and RoHS statements, ship with a one-year full warranty, and are supported by an in-house engineering team covering mechanical design, electrical control, and software — which is also what enables fully customized systems, from desktop precision saws to large-frame machines built around a customer's ingot size. Consumables stay simple by design: diamond wire loops ship in roughly 7 days, guide wheels in 10.
"An equipment purchase from overseas is an act of trust, and we try to make that trust cheap to verify," said Daria at Vimfun. "We cut the customer's own material for free before they commit, we publish our cutting parameters and comparison data instead of keeping them vague, and the machine comes with the documentation to hold us to it."
Technical documentation — machine brochures, a white paper comparing closed-loop and reciprocating wire cutting, maintenance schedules, and operator guides — is openly available in the Vimfun Download Center. Vimfun exhibits at Photonics West in San Francisco and Laser World of Photonics in Munich, where visitors can see cutting demonstrations and discuss applications with the engineering team.
